Teacher of Media and English

We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic Media and English Teacher with a passion for their subjects and a commitment to raising standards for all learners. Both departments are welcoming, supportive, well resourced with schemes of work and innovative resources to support teaching and learning.  With your excellent subject knowledge, you will have the opportunity to teach Media Studies, Media BTEC courses and English across all key stages.  

The post is open to ECT’s and experienced teachers, Part-time can be considered if requested.

The successful candidate will be joining a well-resourced department and a welcoming and supportive team.

The ideal candidate will have a commitment to academic excellence and help to embrace our mantra of “Achievement for All”, plan, deliver high quality lessons, be committed to achieving excellent results for students, instilling in them a love for the subject and a desire to learn. Teaching will be across KS3 and KS4, with opportunities available for teaching at KS5. Part time hours can be considered.

A specialism in football and GCSE Theory teaching is desirable.

We are currently seeking a Head of Year for September 2024, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher aiming to advance into a Middle Leader role. If you possess strong pastoral skills and are looking for either career progression or a change of scenery we would very much like to hear from you. Please note a specialism in English would be desirable but not essential.

In addition to an Outer London salary and Trust Benefits the successful candidate will be eligible for a Recruitment Allowance of upto 15% for the first year of employment. We are also able to consider part-time working if required

The successful candidate will work within an established team to ensure all students in the year group are supported by effective pastoral systems and able to make outstanding academic progress within the wider context of their full personal, social and emotional progression.

About Glenthorne High School

Set in the London Borough of Sutton, the school converted to Academy status in 2011 and with its two sister schools, Abbey Primary and Aragon Primary, forms the Willow Learning Trust. Glenthorne High School is a comprehensive school with 1700 pupils on roll, from 11 to 19 years of age, and prides itself on a diverse, inclusive and supportive community.  Past Glenthorne pupils have been highly successful in securing Higher Education at Oxbridge and Russell Group universities and prestigious employment and apprenticeships.

Glenthorne is also the lead school for the Sutton Teaching Alliance and the Sutton SCITT, an outstanding provider of Primary and Secondary Initial Teacher Training.

The school is a centre of excellence in the arts and offers selected places to pupils who demonstrate both talent and aptitude in the arts. 

In addition, the school has an ASD Base with 26 pupils.  This department is well resourced, and pupils are integrated into the life of the school.
