ArtsOne Rocks!

ArtsOne Rocks gives young contemporary musicians the opportunity to enhance their instrumental technique, develop performance skills and build a network of other young people passionate about rock and pop music. 

We provide high-quality tuition for: 

  • Voice 

  • Guitar 

  • Keyboard 

  • Bass Guitar 

  • Drums 

Each week students learn a new song, which may be a classic song from the 1950s, a song that is currently in the charts or anything in between. Specialist instrumental tutors teach the techniques required to perform the song on their chosen instrument and in a live performance scenario with a full band. The tutors are highly experienced teachers and musicians with first-hand music industry experience. Students have regular opportunities to demonstrate their performance skills at showcase gigs. 

At ArtsOne Rocks, we believe in engaging contemporary musicians with a challenging and ambitious repertoire. Students have produced note-for-note performances of The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and the best of Michael Jackson. 

ArtsOne Rocks has excellent resources, including a Nord Stage Piano, Blackstar and Markbass guitar amps and an Allen & Heath digital mixing console. Students learn about performing with stage monitors, mixing live sound and creating guitar tones and synthesiser patches. 

Session One (Intermediate) - 09:00am to 11:00am  

This session is open to students that have experience of performing and have developed a good technical ability on their instrument. The students engage with a repertoire that will require a higher standard of technique and performance confidence. The ArtsOne Rocks tutors work to ensure that the students' musicianship and performance skills are developing to a point where they can join our advanced group. Attending this group would be particularly beneficial for any students studying GCSE Music.

Session Two (Advanced) - 11:30am to 1:30pm  

In this group, ArtsOne Rocks aims to expose students to challenging repertoire and expects them to perform it to the highest standard. The tutors work to ensure that the students are aware of what it takes to perform at a professional standard and prepare them for studying music at University level. Attending this group would be particularly beneficial for any students studying BTEC or A-Level Music.

The Pretender by Foo Fighters, Grace by Jeff Buckley, Crown by Stormzy, Earth Song by Michael Jackson, Money by Pink Floyd, Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder.  

Session Three (Beginner) - 2:00pm to 4:00pm  

This session is open to students from year five upwards. In this group, the focus is about getting students to perform basic three or four chord songs to a high standard and building a solid instrumental technique that will enable them to move into session one and two in the future. All students are welcome to attend this group, even if they are complete beginners! The ArtsOne Rocks tutors will always work to ensure that everyone is actively involved in the session, regardless of their ability.
