Drama Academy

Course Overview

Studying on the Drama Academy course will give you the opportunity to develop and refine your performance skills. Throughout the two-year course there will be a number of performance opportunities available to you.

The course will be led by Drama and Theatre Studies teachers and professional artists who are currently working within the Performing Arts industry. In the past, tutors have included practitioners from the Royal Shakespeare Company, Frantic Assembly and directors who have links with the National Theatre. Through studying the course, students will be awarded a National Extended Certificate in Performing Arts (Acting).

Typical units for the Foundation Diploma will include:

  • Unit 1: Investigation into Practitioners' Work
  • Unit 2: Developing Skills for Live Performance
  • Unit 3: Group Performance Workshop
  • Unit 19: Acting Styles.

The course is predominantly practical and will allow students to perform in a variety of settings.

Qualification

Students will complete the Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Performing Arts (Drama). This is the equivalent to 1 A-Level.  This can be combined with other A-level and BTEC qualifications.

Is this course right for me?

You should be passionate about theatre and acting, and you should have the commitment to undertake a practical course in acting. This will mean that you will need to commit to rehearsals both in school and out of school. You will also have aspirations of going on to study Drama or Acting at a higher educational level.

How to apply

To apply for entry onto this course you must have completed the following:

  • Passed with a C or above in GCSE English Language
  • Passed with A*-C at GCSE Drama, equivalent BTEC course, or have substantial practical experience
  • Attend an audition where we will expect students to perform two monologues (one from a chosen list and one of your own choice).
